You can use it as-is, or (as i would recommend) spend some time tweaking it to your personal liking, perhaps removing some elements, moving things around, or adding features. Having recently optimized my foobar interface to a highly satisfying degree, i figured i’d share it with you / the world. Lately i have taken quite strongly to foobar2000 as an exquisite audio playback experience, as it is highly customizable and of utmost quality, but feels quite approachable. Another example is fine-tuning my Desktop PC music playback experience. A recent subwoofer upgrade to a nicer one i snabbed at auction for super cheap is one example. We will investigate why. I spend a good deal of time listening to music and occasionally take stabs at optimizing the experience. Our experience is that a small buffer sounds better. And in case of a local connection it shouldn’t be necessary at all. Buffer is useful for network hickups, but it is not a solution for an unstable network. We recommend to set the buffer-size as small as possible. Of course, your (USB) dac must support the output. Output can be done via (native) DSD, DOP and PCM. Those who like to play DSD-files will be happy with this free plugin. And that should make for a slightly better playback! DSD This in turn saves accessing the network or the internal disk. This plugin loads the complete track – or part of the playlist – into RAM (random access memory). RAM DiskĪ nice addition is the RAM Disk plugin. Foobar can in any case handle ASIO when you install this plugin. If a manufacturer has written a very solid ASIO driver it is preferable to use it. We don’t hear any difference between the two, but it may very well be that the ASIO-driver is better. Purists will say that ASIO is even better than Wasapi. Think about sharing resources with other applications. This can be caused by resampling, bit crunching (in case of volume adjustments) or other problems. This means that the audio no longer passes through the Windows mixer, which in many cases results in a degradation of playback quality. This ensures that Foobar has direct access to the sound card. One of the most important plugins for Foobar in case of Windows is the Wasapi plugin.
